About the Gemstones
Green Gemstones - Tourmaline & Tsavorite Garnet
A perennial favourite amongst jewellery enthusiasts, these gemstones owe their verdant appearance to the element chromium, and range from saturated, electric hues to more muted and subtle shades.
Evoking a style that harkens back to the splendour and glamour of the roaring 20s, they make for fantastical rings, earrings, necklaces, and more. You can witness their beauty in York’s 'Madame de Pompadour' Green Tourmaline & Diamond Double Halo Ring, and the 'Audrey' Tsavorite Garnet and Black Diamond Ring.
Peachy/Pink Gemstones - Morganite, Pink Tourmaline
Belonging to the same mineral family as aquamarine and emerald, morganite is a pink to orange pink jewel that has surged in popularity over the last ten years. Believed by some to symbolise love and joy, its almost sepia-tone appearance lends a dreamlike quality.
Pink tourmaline presents in a vivid rosy hue, and exudes grace in whatever piece it’s placed. They’re incredibly rare, and when set in jewellery, form pieces that deftly tread the line between bold and understated. York’s Morganite and Diamond Ring and Pink Tourmaline & Black Diamond Ring are fabulous examples of the two.
Blue Gemstones - Aquamarine, Tanzanite
The azure gemstone aquamarine derives its name from the latin word for seawater, and it’s easy to see why. Radiating delicate blue waves that transform and swirl into darker tones upon meeting the light, it’s hard not to be transported to a tranquil seascape upon viewing this enrapturing gem.
With distinctly more violet colouring, tanzanite serves as a striking and bold contrast to aquamarine. Mined only in its namesake country of Tanzania, this beautiful mineral is perfect for those seeking an alluring yet sophisticated piece. Our 'Maya' Aquamarine & Diamond Drop Earrings and 'Delilah' Tanzanite, Diamond & Black Diamond Ring are a must-see for all interested in this shade.
Purple Gemstones - Amethyst
With an entrancingly rich purple colour, Amethyst is adored by jewellery lovers the world over for its ability to enliven most any outfit. Set amongst rose gold, yellow gold, white gold, or silver, this quartz variety makes for unforgettable earrings, rings, or pendants. Our Amethyst & Diamond Open Halo Drop Stud Earrings are a perfect example of this stone’s beauty.
Yellow Gemstones - Heliodor
Heliodor bears a striking shade of golden yellow that evokes old world glamour, especially when accompanied by diamonds. York’s 'Elizabeth' Heliodor & Diamond Ring displays beautifully this remarkably unique jewel.
Red Gemstones - Spinel, Sapphire, Ruby
Red gemstones command a level of attention few others can muster. Boasting deep, fiery tones, these unmissable gemstones are the ultimate statement piece, and are ideal for those looking to leave a lasting impression. York’s Ruby & Diamond Halo Ring is a great example of the opulent jewellery that can be made with such minerals.
